Relaxation Massage — often referred to as Swedish massage, a relaxation massage is just how it sounds… relaxing. Broad strokes and kneading techniques are mostly used to help increase your circulation, and release tension.
Deep Tissue Massage — Our bodies have layers of muscles. This type of massage therapy focuses on working on muscles that lay under the superficial muscle layers. Because these layers are deeper, the pressure is generally more firm than in a relaxation massage (though there are ways to target deeper tissue that don't always feel like a lot of pressure). If you choose a Deep Tissue massage, keep in mind that not all areas of the body have to be worked deeply. Usually, there are one or two target areas. And as always, if the pressure ever feels too deep to you, please tell your therapist and they will decrease the pressure.
Neuromuscular Therapy — Neuromuscular therapy is simply a handful of techniques that helps address injuries or areas of extreme tension or concern. These techniques are often used to break up adhesions, relieve trigger points, increase range of motion, and help the body break any patterns that are contributing to areas of discomfort.
Pre-natal — often referred to as Pregancy massage. Urban Oasis offers pre-natal massage on a special pregnancy massage table with cutouts for the breasts and belly. Women rave about being able to lie on their bellys, especially after the six month mark. We can also work with you having you lay on your side supported by pillows. Pre-natal massage is a wonderful way to alleviate some of the unique strain and pain put on your body during this amazing time of change and growth.
Shiatsu — Shiatsu is a Japanese word meaning "shi" finger, and "atsu" meaning pressure. Shiatsu is a gentle, deeply relaxing massage technique based on older forms of massage from China and Southeast Asia. Some shiatsu practitioners use a massage table, others use the floor in order to apply a wider variety of techniques. If the floor is used, the person lies on a futon or exercise mat. The client remains fully clothed. Loose, comfortable clothing is best.
Thai Massage — Thai bodywork uses pressing, kneading, stretching and assisted yoga postures with acupressure.
Chinese Massage (Tui Na) — Chinese Massage works on the body's meridian system to activate energy and blood circulation and healin. Various types of manipulations are used such as pushing, rolling, and pinching (to name a few.)
